MACRONUTRIENTS
A macronutrient is a category of nutrients that consist of protein, carbohydrates, and fats that are present in all food. Macronutrients are given due to the fact that the correct amount can provide energy, increase recovery from exercise, alter body composition, and control appetite. They are inevitably the fingerprint of your body’s nutritional needs!
When given macros, you may see them broken down into grams as such:
1g Protein 1g Carb 1g Fat
Adding these GRAMS up, will give you your total amount of calories eaten due to what they equate to:
1g protein = 4 calories 1g carbohydrate = 4 calories 1g Fat = 9 Calories
Example: 100g protein x4 = 400100g Carbohydrates x4 = 400100g Fatx 9 = 900 Total: 1700 calories
What is a MICRONUTRIENT? Although the majority of our diet consists of macronutrients, we still require many vitamins and minerals. These are in foods such as fruits, vegetables, and all of those colorful fresh goodies in the grocery aisles! *These are added into proteins/fats/ and carbohydrates when tracked!*
